Equity Research Associate - Toys, Games, & Leisure

BMO Capital Markets has approximately 2,700 professionals in 33 locations around the world.

The Equity Research department covers over 900 stocks across diverse sectors, and provides equity research services and stock recommendations to our clients. Within this, we are currently searching for an associate for our Toys, Games, and Leisure research team in our New York office. The companies covered manufacture and sell toys, video games, and motorized outdoor recreational equipment.

Description As an Equity Research Associate, the successful candidate will work closely with an analyst in support of providing insights and research on numerous companies across the toys, games, and leisure industries. The work environment involves collaboration, co-ordination and a shared knowledge with the analyst and team. The associate role requires excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative team player. Tasks include but are not limited to:
  • Creation and maintenance of detailed financial models and databases
  • Analysis of financial statements and press releases
  • Examination of industry publications
  • Field Research including visits to powersports/boat/RV dealerships, boat & RV shows, toy stores, and video game conferences
  • Cold calling of dealers and video game stores
  • Writing of research reports and comments
  • Communication of recommendations to internal and external clients
  • Participation in site visits and management meetings

Experience/Skills A combination of exceptional writing skills, technical knowledge and skills in equity research, finance or accounting demonstrated through relevant work and educational experience is required. Prior industry experience in equity research is not required. Candidates must have a clear and proven track record of achievement throughout their education. Other necessary attributes include:

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Interest in playing video games on all platforms: console, PC, and mobile
  • Strong attention to detail
  • A positive attitude, intellectual curiosity, the ability to learn quickly
  • Superior work ethic, self-motivation and the ability to work independently
  • Flexibility to work irregular or extended hours
  • Solid technology skills with robust knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Bloomberg

Education Four years of college with a major in economics, finance, accounting, or business.
